MAKE A KITTEN PAPOOSE
WARNING! Graphic belly fat and pajamas photos!
Sometimes I get a single nursing kitten, have one sick one, or have a few tinies who need extra-critical care. For all of these situations, there is the Kitten Papoose. It's a way to safely and comfortably carry around babies who need constant contact.
A single nursing/weaning/sick kitten or puppy will wither if left alone in a box all day and night. The comfort of your body heat, heartbeat, and movements will help him to feel so much better.
The way I make a kitten papoose is really easy: I wrap the baby/babies in a clean square of fuzzy blanket, fold the kitten-in-a-blanket in my t-shirt so it's like a taco or hammock, and then tie the whole thing up with a belt. I can then go about my day (at home) without worrying that the booboo is lonely or sad. Once the baby feels secure and snuggly, he'll sleep like this pretty much indefinitely. I can carry a baby in a papoose all day and only take him out for feedings/peeing/pooing/meds.
Note about blanket squares: Since I have to wash tons and tons of laundry when I have tinies, I make it easier and more economical by cutting blankets and towels into little squares that are easy to wash and store.
