BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR TRASH!!
The first time I ever heard that small pets can accidentally get thrown out with the trash was in high school, when my best friend's turtle disappeared that way. They were devastated, and to this day I am careful about it. With kittens, it is an especially relevant concern--they love to climb in and curl up in dark spaces. If you accidentally leave an open trash bag, box, etc on the floor, you are asking for trouble!! Tonight, knowing that kittens climb in and fall asleep, I checked in a box of stuff I was going to toss out. Sure enough, there's this tiny fuzz rolled up in the corner. If, G-d forbid, I hadn't checked, she would have been gone and I would have wanted to die. The shock of finding her asleep in there, even though I was LOOKING for her there, is still making me feel nauseous. WHAT IF...... So don't leave stuff that's meant to be thrown away on the ground, and always check in anything that might hold a sleeping baby before tossing it. On the same note, always check your dirty laundry before putting it in the washing machine and before turning it or the dryer on!
